First Name Origins offers three scroll-style templates and lets you change the font size and color of the text. Once you enter a first name and choose a gender, the program will quickly return information such as the name's meaning and origin. It also serves up information concerning the person's integrity, personality, emotional state, and relationships, though you can edit this data if you don't agree with it. If you want to add an extra touch, check the box for date of birth. You can see results using both American and British spellings, but in some of our tests, the preview option didn't work, meaning we had to print out a scroll to see what it looked like. The one-week trial period is less than we usually like to see in a download, and we didn't like the unsolicited shortcut that appeared on our desktop. Still, if you like making customized gifts for your friends, First Name Origins might make a nifty addition.
