Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffMarch 2, 2005Eat less, exercise more: it's easier said than done, but Desktop Diet aims to help. It records your diet and exercise regimen and provides tools for setting and tracking your fitness goals. Just don't expect it to cheer you on. Desktop Diet lacks wizards, reminders, or motivational components. It's essentially a caloric-accounting utility. Obscure charts, forms, and options choke the interface. Luckily, the online help is reasonably good. Once you know your way around, you can search the program's database for information on calories, carbohydrates, protein, fat, cholesterol, fiber, minerals, and vitamins. Note, however, that Desktop Diet measures amounts of food only in cups, slices, and servings, and not in more precise quantities. The Fitness section is utterly confusing, but it can design a workout, track your physical activities, and calculate burned calories. Desktop Diet won't replace a personal trainer, but we recommend it--hesitantly--to self-motivated calorie counters.
