Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffApril 6, 2004If you're studying for a standardized test such as the SAT, LSAT, or MCAT, this program serves as a useful vocabulary-strengthening aid. Vocabulary Builder Simple helps you brush up your verbal skills in two ways. First, you can have the program display words and their definitions at random. When you feel confident, the utility will then test you by displaying a word but keeping the definition hidden until you click a box. As you might expect from such a simple app, the interface is self-explanatory, though we felt the design could be more inspired. Also, though the program's large database of almost 5,000 words is impressive, we would still like the ability to add words ourselves. Vocabulary Builder Simple is convenient, though, since it runs in your system tray and lets you schedule times for pop quizzes. Since the trial version lets you access only words beginning with a through d, we wouldn't recommend it as your only study aid. Nevertheless, we think test takers will find Vocabulary Builder Simple a handy tool.
