Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffApril 23, 2011Programs don't have to be fancy to be useful, and Snap Backup is proof of that. Its interface is plain and its features are basic, but we like it because it's an incredibly easy way to back up your files. And when you have a task that's so important -- yet so easy to forget about -- anything that helps you do it on a more regular basis is worth checking out.Snap Backup has a simple interface that's easy to figure out. First, select the directories you want to back up. Next, select a destination location; this can be an external hard drive, a USB drive, or anywhere else you think is a safe place to store your backup. The program will also optionally let you copy your backup to another drive. Once you've determined what you want to save and where, click the Backup Now button, and Snap Backup will do its thing, saving the selected files and folders as a ZIP file. If you want to save your files in an uncompressed format, Snap Backup is not a good choice, and it also lacks some of the more-sophisticated options of other backup managers, such as automation features. But Snap Backup is good at what it does, and if you need a simple way to create and save ZIP archives of your files, it doesn't get much easier than this. The program also comes with a surprisingly detailed Help file, making it a good choice for people who've never backed up their files before and aren't sure how to get started.Snap Backup installs and uninstalls without issues.
