Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffNovember 13, 2018Visual Anatomy Free features interactive images of the human body and its organs, including the muscles, skeleton, and circulation, as well as a rotational 3D organ overview mode. Because of its beautiful, detailed graphics and 500 feature points with labels and descriptions, this app can be a basic reference tool for medical practitioners or students, as well as a good source of information for anyone else who wants to learn more about their body.ProsBeautifully rendered graphics: Visual Anatomy Free accurately renders all the major systems of the body and, thanks to the labels for all major features and effortless pinch-to-zoom, can be used for educational or explanatory purposes. It even works on older devices.Includes plenty of explanations: Tapping on any of the 500+ signs for every major feature of the body brings up a pop up briefly describing what that body part is and, if it's an organ, includes a longer explanation of what it does and how it works. The explanations are accessible enough for lay users.Potent search feature: You can quickly locate any of the 500 features mapped on the anatomical images within the app -- once you've entered a search term, you're automatically taken to the relevant image, so that this app can be used as an elementary visual reference dictionary. Also, the search integrates with Wikipedia for more in-depth information.ConsUseless buttons: The ? button that appears in the image mode doesn't seem to do anything, while the Zoom In/Zoom Out buttons are superfluous, taking up screen space unnecessarily, since it's a lot easier to pinch to zoom.Missing data: There are no images of the lymphatic system or of some organs belonging to it, like the thymus behind the heart. This isn't the kind of app that a surgeon would use.Bottom LineBeautiful, informative, and practical, Visual Anatomy Free proves to be an engaging app that delivers on its promise of being a useful tool for anyone interested in learning more about human anatomy. It may not be in-depth enough for doctors, but it's certainly a good starting point for students.
